Location facts & who’s who

The Sir JJ College of Mumbai, the oldest and most famous architecture and design university in India, and the location of event, has been invaded by boxes, metaphors of the transportation of products from nation to nation and of the itinerant concept of the I.DoT project, together with very long coloured ribbons, which ideally tie together thoughts and places. These ribbons have been chosen in the colours of the two flags, Italian and Indian, in order to symbolise the experiences that arise at the end of each stage, from the many meetings and from the relationships that are created by these meetings. Ribbons used as banners to encircle the enthusiasm of the young students from JJ College who have helped prepare the external spaces dedicated to the related exhibitions, and who have also played a part in the various key moments of the initiative as a whole, in a climate of great reciprocity.

Along with the INDIA - ITALIA BUSINESS FORUM program, which has named 2007 as “the year of Italy in India” and in collaboration with the highest level institutional authorities in Italy and India, the day-long I.DoT conference held on 13 February at the Sir JJ College, and entitled “Creating identity for design in the Global Market”, was met with great interest by a qualified public of designers and architects, sector experts, personages from the academic world and journalists.

MUMBAI and SIR JJ COLLEGE

The classical and contemporary product collections, which were selected among the best Italian design achievements, along with the ten winning projects of The Almerico De Angelis Young Designers Award were hosted at Sir JJ College in Mumbai, the oldest and most prestigious Indian architecture and design University. The settings which had been designed by Denis Santachiara and Paola Navone were placed beside new installations made with packaging materials in order to symbolize the metaphor of I.DoT’s travelling project.

FOCUS-ON

The Shanghai Exhibition Center, located in the heart of Shanghai’s international fashion district, was the home to this years edition of the Shanghai Design Biennial (SDB). A mixture of business and culture in perfect harmony with the ideas behind the pieces in the I.DoT selection.

The participation of the Italian Government and of the Lombardy Regional Government underlined their recognition of the value of I.DoT and Design Made in Italy. The Vice President of the Lombardy Regional Council, Enzo Lucchini and the Regional Assessor for Craftsmanship Domenico Zampetti opened the I.DoT exhibition, which received both sponsorship and support from the Lombardy region. In addition Lucchini participated and the opening of the entire festival and was a member of the panel of speakers at the International Design Conference.

During the Biennial the Shanghai Intellectual Property Office signalled the occasion by signing an important document on intellectual property rights together with the Milan Chamber of Commerce. A decisive move in the recognition and protection of the uniqueness of design Made in Italy. This position of importance was also indicated clearly by the prestigious exhibition space given to I.DoT.
